About the Program

2008 marks the fifth year of the Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare program, recognizing the best in senior leadership teamwork at hospitals, health plans and medical group practices. This year's conference will be held October 16-17 at The Drake Hotel in Chicago. Below is a list of frequently asked questions. What is the 2008 agenda?

The conference begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008, and concludes Friday, October 17, at 1:30 p.m. You may view a complete agenda in our event brochure.

How do I register?

What is the cost to attend?

The registration fee is $895/person. Register by August 14 and save $100. For group pricing discounts, please call 800/753-0131.

How do I reserve a room?

You may reserve a room at The Drake Hotel by calling 800/55-DRAKE. Make your hotel reservations immediately to guarantee discounted rates and availability.

What is the room rate?

The discounted room rate is $299 before September 23, 2008. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and often sell out before the September 23 cut-off date. Be sure to mention Top Leadership Teams.

What is the deadline to apply?

The 2008 Top Leadership Teams program is closed. Thank you to all who submitted entries. If you're considering submitting an entry for 2009, watch for information on this Web site in December 2008. For questions or comments, email teamwork@healthleadersmedia.com.

Is my healthcare organization eligible to enter?

The Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare program annually recognizes the best leadership team work at acute-care hospitals, health plans and medical group practices. Vendors and other companies that supply services to those organizations are not eligible. Each category has specific eligibility guidelines. To view them, review the Official Rules (PDF).

Is there an entry fee?

No, entering the awards program is free.

What are the award categories?

The 2008 award categories include:

  • Large hospitals and health systems (500+ beds)
  • Community and mid-sized hospitals (100-499 beds)
  • Small hospitals (Fewer than 100 beds)
  • Health plans (State, regional, and national)
  • Medical group practices (physician-owned, single- or multi-specialty groups employing 25+ physicians)
  • Global hospitals (Hospitals operating outside of the US with 100+ beds)

What recognition do the winners receive?

Winners of the Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare program are . . .

  • Featured in an issue of HealthLeaders magazine
  • Announced nationally on HealthLeaders Daily news
  • Publicized in the major business release wires
  • Celebrated at the annual Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare Conference

Additionally, the CEO and one other member of the winning leadership team in the large hospital, global hospital, community hospital, small hospital, health plan and medical group practice categories will be featured speakers on a winners' panel at the Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare Conference.

Can anyone submit an entry?

The entry must be submitted by a contact person employed in the leadership of the entered healthcare organization. A consultant, public relations or advertising firm, or vendor with a relationship to the entered healthcare organization may assist in preparing the entry.

When will the winners be announced?

The winners will be announced in the HealthLeaders Daily News in late June.

When will the finalists be notified?

Finalists will be notified in May, so that the judges may arrange a site visit for final judging. Entrants who are not selected as finalists will also be notified by June.

Can I resubmit an entry from a prior year?

Certainly. Updated entries are welcome. Please review the updated entry form and revise as needed. Please make certain that all information--especially team members and contact information--is current.

Can we submit additional materials, such as our annual report?

No materials outside the official entry form will be considered.

What organizations are eligible for the new global category?

Hospitals of more than 100 licensed beds operating outside the United States and its territories are eligible. This includes hospitals owned by American healthcare organizations.

Where do I send the entries?

All entries must be submitted on the Website portal at www.topleadershipteams.net. No other forms of entry will be accepted.

What if I have a really great story to tell, but need extra time to prepare the entry?

No entries submitted the application deadline will be accepted.

Does the winner get a plaque?

A plaque with the winning organization's name and leadership team is presented to the winners.

I tried to submit my entry, but I got an error message. What should I do?

E-mail us at teamwork@healthleadersmedia.com and we'll look into it immediately.

Who will see the entry?

Only the judges and editors from HealthLeaders Media will see the entries. The information contained in the entry will not be shared with outside parties. Occasionally a HealthLeaders Media editor may get a story idea from the information in the entries, but that information would not be pulled directly from the entry and used without first contacting the entrant.

We were not selected as finalists. Can we find out why?

In order to maintain the privacy of the program judging, it is our policy not to comment on why a particular entrant was not selected as a finalist.

Are there any specific attributes that winners share?

While every year brings a new set of winning stories, over the years of the program the winners have consistently demonstrated a culture of accountable, measurable teamwork among a group of committed leaders. Winners have been able to show demonstrable results, not merely share vague statements about teamwork.
